Taking Online Defensive Driving Classes

Today, defensive driving classes are not only handled within the confines of a traditional classroom. There are other alternative methods in delivering driving safety courses. It can be done through a CD, DVD, Cable TV and Videotapes. An online defensive driving course is also a popular choice of completing a defensive driving course requirement for traffic citation dismissal.

For those who prefer to take the course in a traditional classroom setting, they can complete it in either one of two ways. First, they can attend a full session for six hours straight excluding a lunch break and other shorter breaks. Second, they can choose to complete a course through two three-hour sessions that are scheduled in two separate days.

Others prefer the online defensive driving course because this way, students can control the pace of the session through this method. By following simple instructions, they are able to exit and re-enter the same segment of an online defensive driving course if ever they decide to take a break. Since an instructor is not present throughout the course, testing and security measures should be in place for an online course to be approved and authorized by a government regulatory agency. During the course, questions will be asked from time to time and third-party databases are used to verify if the answers to the questions are accurate. Questions about the content of the online defensive driving course will also be asked to check if the student was able to absorb what he or she is taught. These questions pop up on the computer screen from time to time and the student is given thirty or sixty seconds to answer a question.

The student should be able to answer seventy percent of the questions asked in the Personal Identity Verification Test correctly. This is a requirement for him to be able to receive a completion certificate. Most online defensive driving classes have two testing systems that include comprehension questions and a final exam. The student should be able to answer seventy percent of all questions asked for both test systems to be able to receive a completion certificate. For those who are not able to pass initially, they can retake the final exam up to three times.

Some online defensive driving courses are delivered through texts accompanying a video. These texts make it easier for those who are hearing impaired to understand the course. Some driving safety courses are also delivered through Spanish especially for those classes taken by Spanish speaking drivers. These courses have to be approved by the concerned government agency first.

For the online defensive driving course to benefit a student at its maximum, certain minimum system requirements should be met. These are as follows: 400 MHz Processor, 128 Megabytes of Memory, 56k modem (high speed cable modem or DSL connection), speakers and sound card, MS Internet explorer 6.0, MacroMedia Flash Player 7, a mouse or any pointing device, 800x600 screen resolution, enabled cookies and Javascript and disabled Pop Up Blockers.
